Before and After School Enriched Daycare Program

The English Montreal School Board’s B.A.S.E. (Before and After School Enriched) Daycare Program is a Quebec government subsidized supervision service offered outside regular class hours for preschool and elementary school children. The B.A.S.E. Daycare Program’s objective is to enhance the lives of children aged four to 12 years old by providing them with enriching educational activities set in a relaxed, safe and nurturing environment.

Our Mandate

  • Provide a welcoming and nurturing environment that ensures the safety and general well-being of the children served.
  • Complement and contribute to the achievement of the school’s educational project objectives.
  • Promote a culture of student success by coordinating activities and recreational projects pertaining to six educational cores: Homework and Snack, Creative Arts, Media Awareness, Physical Activity, Environmental Consciousness and Specialty Programs, such as those tailored for children with special needs. All of these programs contribute to the children’s overall development.
  • Encourage the development of the children’s social skills, such as respect, cooperation and openness to others.
  • Offer homework support after school by providing students with an appropriate place in which to work and the time and materials they require.
  • Build a professional learning community that contributes to early childhood education and care by upgrading the competencies of the daycare staff through continual professional development and mentoring programs.
The B.A.S.E. Daycare Program is in compliance with the policies of the English Montreal School Board, the Education Act and the budgetary rules of the Ministère de l'Éducation. All daycare technicians and educators are certified in CPR and first aid.

Daycare Fees and Services

The B.A.S.E. Daycare Program operates a minimum of 180 days per academic year. It does not operate on statutory holidays, Winter Break, March Break and during the summer months, unless otherwise stipulated.

Daycare is provided on weekdays in the morning, during lunch period, after-school and on pedagogical days. Additional fees may apply for activities and outings during pedagogical days.

Fee Structure

The Daycare fee structure is based on the student’s status in the daycare. A student’s status is designated as Regular, Sporadic or Occasional.

Regular:
(For a maximum of five hours)
$9.50/day
Pedagogical Day:
(For a total of 10 hours. Additional activity fees may apply)
$15.00/day
Sporadic + Occasional:
(On regular school days)
Fees are based on the blocks the student attends, partial or full, and varies per school depending on the time of each daycare period.

A regular student is one who is registered and attending Daycare for a minimum of one to five days a week and a minimum of two periods a day. This applies to students who attend on a weekly basis and follow a fixed schedule.
A sporadic student is one who is registered and attending Daycare for one period a day (AM, LUNCH or PM). Please note that the lunch period is considered a block. A sporadic student is also someone who is registered and attends on a pedagogical day.
An occasional student is one who is registered but does not have a forecasted attendance and does not attend on a weekly basis. Daycare Services are needed for emergency purposes. The parent/guardian must give the daycare a 24-hour notice when possible and keep in mind that it is not a guarantee that their child(ren) will be put in the same daycare group as their classmates.

The Six B.A.S.E. Educational Cores

The B.A.S.E. Daycare Program forms partnerships with universities, organizations and professional companies to offer a full range of enriching activities to students at no additional cost to parents. These activities can take place during all daycare periods—morning, lunch and after-school—and are usually offered through three sessions of eight to 10 weeks. These specialized activities vary from daycare to daycare and complement what the daycare educators are already facilitating with their group of students.

  1. Homework and Snack Educational Core
The Homework and Snack Educational Core is offered every day of the school year. Children are provided with a nutritious snack and a 45-minute to one-hour homework period. Academic tutoring services are also provided to students who need assistance with their homework.
  2. Creative Arts Educational Core
The Creative Arts Educational Core offers a plethora of activities allowing students to express themselves in new and innovative ways. More than just drawing pretty pictures, the arts have the power to affect the way students feel about themselves, others and life, providing opportunities for creative fulfillment and personal successes.
  3. Physical Activities Educational Core
The Physical Activities Educational Core gets students moving, learning and having fun in a non-competitive environment. Promoting good health and improved fitness levels, students are given the chance to relieve stress and release energy with their friends.
  4. Media Awareness Educational Core
Children are inundated with technology and the media everyday. By learning about and utilizing different media themselves, daycare students become more savvy consumers. The Media Awareness Educational core programs explore print and digital forms of media.
  5. Environmental Consciousness Educational Core
The Environmental Consciousness Educational Core teaches students to consider the possibilities of the natural environment. As society today becomes further removed from nature, and especially food sources, increasing the awareness of young people will ultimately create a better future for them and the planet. The Environmental Consciousness programs explore the role we as humans play in shaping and caring for our planet.
  6. Specialty Programs Educational Core
The Specialty Programs Educational Core specializes at teaching students different social, communication and life skills. The Specialty Programs Educational Core also caters to its special needs clientele.
